On the day 28th of Nov 1917, after the October Revolution in Russia, the Caucasus Council was established in Tbilisi. The Soviet Socialist Republic of Georgia was established on February 25, 1921. On March 2 of that year, the first constitution of Soviet Georgia was approved.


The Transcaucasian Socialist Republic day

Soviet Georgia was recognized as part of the Transcaucasian Socialist Republic from day 12 March 1922, to December 5, 1936. In December 1936, the Soviet Socialist Republic beyond the Caucasus was dissolved, putting pressure on the Georgians to remove Georgians from the control of large areas of Turkey (including Batumi and Tao-Klarjeti), Azerbaijan (including Hereti / Sein). Gilo), Armenia (Lori region), and a region in eastern Georgia.

In December 1936, the Transcaucasian Soviet Socialist Republic was dissolved into three semi-autonomous republics. These three republics were: the Socialist Republic of Soviet Armenia, the Socialist Republic of Soviet Azerbaijan, and the Socialist Republic of Soviet Georgia.

Second World Wide

One of the main reasons for Hitler’s operation in Barbarossa in 1941 was to gain access to the oil-rich regions of the Caucasus. But the German-led forces did not reach Georgia. The country had 700,000 soldiers (350,000 killed) in the Red Army and was an important source of textiles and ammunition. Under Stalin, who was also born in Georgia, the Chechens, the Abngushs, the Qarachais, and the Balkars were expelled from the North Caucasus on charges of collaborating with the Nazis. They moved to Central Asia and Serbia.

The end of the Soviet era

In the late 1980s, violence erupted between communist officials, the Georgian National Revival Movement, and the Nationalist Movement. On April 9, 1989, Soviet forces broke the peace agreement and entered the government building in Tbilisi. The move radicalized Georgia’s policies, and many, even Georgian communists, believed that independence was far better than obeying Soviet law.

On October 28, 1990, democratic parliamentary elections were held and on November 15, the country was renamed the “Republic of Georgia”. On April 9, 1991, independence was declared. On August 24, 1995, a new law was enacted and promulgated under the same constitution in 1921, and the country was renamed Georgia.
