Representatives of the tourism sector call on the Georgian government to respond to the recovery plan aimed at saving not only the tourism industry, but the Georgian economy as a whole.
Representatives of the tourism industry say the Georgian government has ignored the plan, which is both safe and much needed. They say the ski industry, for example, will not continue easily unless restrictions are lifted. They believe that winter resorts should be reopened first, and added that they intend to host guests in accordance with all official recommendations and regulations.
Georgia Tourism Industry and Economy
Fifteen business associations issued an open letter to the government on Wednesday stating that ski resorts, hotels, restaurants and shopping malls should be opened in Georgia, otherwise, according to experts, many will not be able to survive in this crisis. They add that transportation and air traffic must also be resumed, subject to compliance with all relevant safety measures and protocols. The signatories of the letter then presented a six-point plan to help the government in the process of gradual reopening, aimed at saving the Georgian economy.
The initiative group’s proposal to meet with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia is aimed at re-examining the issues that need to be addressed urgently to save the Georgian economy, otherwise most establishments and organizations would easily not survive. They will not stay neither. The aim is to ask the government to take immediate action, since the tourism industry is directly related to the country’s economy, they called for the lifting of restrictions and the reopening of borders so in this case tourists can enter into the country.
